Mid-Career Option

The mid-career option requires 33 hours of graduate course work (36 hours plus GSPS program for Global management students) . The internship requirement (PA 8280) and the capstone applied project (PA8211) are waived for working professionals completing the mid-career option.

I. Prerequisites (6 credit hours)

Students who have not completed prior coursework in micro economics and statistics must take two courses as prerequisites.

  • PA 8170: Public Policy Processes and Strategies
  • PA 8185: Research Methods and Inquiry in Public Affairs
  • PA 8195: Economic Analysis for Public Policy
  • PA 8210: Ethics, Democracy and the Public Service
  • PA 8530: Strategic Management of Public Service Organizations: People, Information, and Money

  • Public and Nonprofit Management
  • Global Management (International students only)



The Capital Fellowship Program:

  • Missouri state employees who have been accepted into the MPA Program - Mid-Career option may apply to receive financial support through the Capital Fellowship Program. The program covers in-state tuition for the 11 required MPA courses.
  • The program is designed for students with three to five years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Candidates are required to submit a separate Capital Fellowship application, which must include a letter from the agency or department endorsing the application.
