The 2017 Year-end Wrap-up and Happy Hour

The Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs held the annual Year-end Wrap-up and Happy Hour event at Broadway Brewery to celebrate the closing of the 2016-2017 academic year. It was a time for all of the Truman School  students, faculty, staff, and alumni to get together and enjoy each other’s company before parting ways for the summer. Forty-five people in all attended and many enjoyed a variety of appetizers, which were generously sponsored by the Career and Alumni Services.

Not only was the Year-end Happy Hour celebrating everyone making it through yet another successful year at the Truman School, but the event was also a wrap-up for this year’s mentoring program. The Truman School developed the formal mentoring program in 2015, which is designed to facilitate the sharing of knowledge between experienced alumni (mentors) and MPA students (mentees) who are preparing for their careers.

MPA students were matched into formal mentor/mentee pairings with area alumni based on the mentee’s interest. The Mentees were then informed of their match at a Mentor Match-up Happy Hour, which was held on November 10th at Shakespeare’s Pizza. The formal pairing lasted for the academic year, with the Year-end Wrap-up as the final closing event. Even though the Year-end Wrap-up and Happy Hour event marked the end of the 2017 mentoring program, the mentors and mentees are welcome to sustain the relationship past the academic year if they choose!

This year’s Year-end Wrap-up and Happy Hour Event was a success thanks to all who attended, showing a great deal of support for their fellow classmates, co-workers, mentors, and friends. The Truman school of Public Affairs is proud of all the accomplishments made in 2016-2017 academic year, and can’t wait to see what next year will hold!
