Research Emphasis

Dr. Hur’s research focuses on nationalism and democratic survival in East Asia and the Korean peninsula, with a specific focus on issues of citizenship, migration, and political inclusion. Her work is published or forthcoming in various academic journals such as the British Journal of Political ScienceComparative Politics, and Journal of East Asian Studies, and cited in media outlets such as the Washington Post and New York Times.


Aram Hur joined the Department of Political Science and Truman School of Public Affairs as an Assistant Professor in 2019. Previously, she was a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University and a 2018-19 U.S.-Korea NextGen Scholar selected by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University, M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School, and B.A. from Stanford University.
