Legacy lives on at Mizzou
Retired Political Science professor, Marvin Llewellyn Rogers, 88, died April 21, 2021, at his home in Columbia, MO, with family by his side.
Rogers, born in 1932, taught at several universities including Rutgers University in New Jersey, California State at Northridge, and University of Missouri, Columbia. He spent nearly 40 years at Mizzou, where he mainly taught large introductory political science classes, as well as those on comparative politics and honors college classes on the Vietnam and Iraq wars.
“Rogers loved MU and loved hearing about veteran’s stories,” says Lael Keiser, director of the Harry S Truman School of Government and Public Affairs. “He was fascinated by their stories, bringing in war survivors to talk about how these conflicts shaped their lives – just as they did his.”
She recalls Marvin was an Army intelligence officer and was assigned to a psychological warfare unit and used his experiences to help others.
“He was also instrumental for bringing the Peace Studies program back to life in 1979,” she says. “It’s a program still in existence today. He was dedicated to helping others and taught even after his retirement. He will be missed.”
