Research Assistant Testimonials

IPP gave me a glimpse into the professional world that was an integral experience for my current position at the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City as a Program Coordinator. In my role as a graduate research assistant, I was immersed in a collaborative team that allowed me to learn while taking on my own authority. I was able to interact and work with external stakeholders, other researchers, and local government officials, something that was not always offered within a classroom setting. These transferrable skills are directly related to my every day work now, and I would not have the expertise and experience without the opportunity I had with IPP.   Lindsey Linkous, MPA 2025

My experience at IPP has shaped my growth, both professionally and personally. The projects I worked on and the support I received helped me build strong analytical, teamwork, and communication skills. These skills have guided me into my new role as a Research Assistant in the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness at Missouri State University,  As I work toward my MBA with a concentration in Data Analytics and IT, I often look back and feel grateful for the solid foundation IPP gave me. It opened doors, built my confidence, and helped me see the kind of future I can create. I carry the lessons from IPP with me, and I am hopeful and excited for what lies ahead.  Abigail Naneworter, MPA 2025

As a graduate assistant at IPP, I had the unique opportunity to apply my Truman School coursework to real-world program evaluation projects. My supervisors and colleagues were invested in my growth as a student and young professional, readily sharing their expertise and lessons learned from their public sector careers. This experience not only enhanced my classroom learning but equipped me with practical, marketable skills that I actively use today. Above all, my time at IPP ignited a passion for improving public programs and policies, laying the foundation for an impactful career in public service.  Hannah Shupert, MPA 2024, Public Health Program Representative, Office of Community Health Strategy, Springfield-Greene County Health Department

My time at IPP was imperative to starting my career in public policy. At a time when I was seeking my first opportunity to work in the field, Dr. Sara Gable and the team at IPP offered me guidance, welcomed me onto a variety of projects, and provided me with the chance to learn new skills and participate in a wide range of meaningful research. By the time I graduated, I was leading the data analysis for two publications and had contributed to many other projects. My input was always encouraged and respected, which was critical in building my confidence and empowering me to pursue a career in policy research. Since graduating from Mizzou, I have been a senior research assistant at the Center for Economic Security and Opportunity at the Brookings Institution. I do not doubt that where I am today is due in no small part to the opportunities and guidance I received from the team at IPP.  Jonathon Zars, BS Economics 2024
