From the Classroom to the Capitol…State Government recognition for the Service-to-Service program.

In February, MPA students spent the day learning from state leaders. Students in our in-person program, the online program, and students from our special Service-to-Service partnership (S2S) with Volker Alliance and We the Veterans, visited with elected officials about the legislative process, internships, and careers in state government.

“My work allows me to bring learning to life by connecting students directly with policymakers. Visiting elected officials in the Missouri Capitol gives them firsthand insight how decisions are made and how public service works in practice,” said Brian Taylor, Director of Career Services for the Truman School.

Service-to-Service participants made this year’s visit to the Missouri capitol memorable.  Students from Lansing, MI, St. Louis, MO, Arlington, VA and others came to campus to meet classmates, participate in the visit to Jefferson City.  The S2S participants were recognized by a fellow vet and Missouri House Representative Matthew Overcast and House Representative Kathey Steinhoff with special recognition through a courtesy resolution in the Missouri House.  “Honestly, meeting the faculty and the other S2S students made this experience. Getting to put names to faces helped a lot. It was also great hearing about the different backgrounds everyone brings to the program. That mix of experience is one of the things that stood out to me most about the visit,” said MPA student and Space Force employee Travis Carreno.
