Dr. Rudy Hernandez awarded 2024 Jack Miller Teaching Excellence Award

Dr. Rudy Hernandez awarded 2024 Jack Miller Teaching Excellence Award in Higher Education (Junior Scholar).

The Jack Miller Teaching Excellence Award recognizes exceptional teaching in civic education at both the college and K-12 levels. The award is given annually by the Jack Miller Center to honor educators who excel in engaging students with America’s founding principles and history.

For higher education, the award is divided into two categories: Junior Scholar (for those who have not yet received tenure) and Senior Scholar (for tenured scholars). Winners receive a $2,000 prize and are featured in Jack Miller Center communications.

Rudy was selected for his dedication to civic education and civil discourse, notably through initiatives like the Civics Bee and the creation of the Constitutional Democracy Academy, demonstrating that civics extends beyond the classroom according to Jay Sexton, Rich and Nancy Kinder Chair of Constitutional Democracy, Professor of History and Kinder Institute Director.   Last year’s winner of the Junior Scholar award was Paul Wilford, Boston College (2023) and Jacob Wolf, University of Austin (2022).
