Registration is open for the Ethics, Money & Politics Conference held on March 24, 2017.
It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located in the Millennium Student Center Century Rooms at the University of Missouri -St. Louis Campus.
The conference is presented by the Center for Ethics in Public Life and the Truman School of Public Affairs. General admission tickets are $65. Students are encouraged to attend at a discounted rate of $25. Lunch and parking are included with the price of the ticket.
For better or worse, in the modern American political arena, money is a necessity. It is the fuel that translates political voices into action, bringing democracy to citizens’ doorsteps. However, money is as dangerous as it is powerful. It can just as well fuel corruption, inequality, and hyper-partisanship, poisoning the democratic process.
If the current system is not perfect, then:
- Is change possible and what should it look like?
- How do elected officials, political operatives, political donors and citizens maintain ethical standards despite these imperfections?
Ethics, Money & Politics will bring together those who study political money, those who raise and spend it, and the press who cover it, for an honest conversation driven by experience and data, not partisan point-scoring.
