Policy Camp

Policy Camp with TSGPA and APPAM

On April 11th, nearly forty students from the University of Missouri (MU), Truman State University, the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), and Lincoln University participated in Policy Camp, a day-long event hosted by the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs (TSGPA) in collaboration with the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM). Held at Stotler Lounge on the University of Missouri, Columbia campus, the camp provided an opportunity for students to engage directly with professionals and educators with public service and policy expertise.

The event featured keynote speaker Missouri's Higher Education and Workforce Development Commissioner Bennett Boggs, who shared insights from his career in public policy and discussed the importance of civic engagement and effective governance. The program included multiple panels: one on careers in public service, another on research in policy and administration, and a student panel that highlighted pathways and experiences in preparing to enter the field. Attendees also participated in an interactive activity, fostering practical application of policy concepts and collaboration in public policy.

Policy Camp served as a forum for emerging public service leaders to connect with peers and professionals, explore policy-related research and career opportunities, and deepen their understanding of public administration in Missouri and beyond.
