Public Policy Across Borders: The Truman School’s Partnership with South Korea

For more than seven decades, the University of Missouri has sustained a meaningful academic relationship with the Republic of Korea, grounded in postwar educational exchange, institutional collaboration, and a shared commitment to public service and development.

Today, that relationship is most clearly reflected through the two pathways for Korean officials to join the Truman School’s MPA program.  Our two-year Global Management program allows Korean officials to earn a Master of Public Affairs from the Truman School over two years. A “1+1” collaboration with the KDI School of Public Policy and Management allows students’ complete coursework at both institutions.   Participants in these programs have included professionals from the Korean Civil Service Commission, National Assembly, Seoul Metropolitan Government, KDI School, and other national and local government entities. The cohort beginning this January includes mid-career professionals from public housing, national retirement oversight, the Constitutional Court, and arts and humanities governance. Collectively, these programs illustrate how the Truman School continues to advance Mizzou’s long-standing engagement with South Korea by educating public sector leaders focused on governance, economic development, and public policy.
