Peter Kim
Bongjoo Peter Kim is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University at Buffalo, SUNY.
Peter studies political violence, international organizations, and the politics of natural resources in fragile and conflict-affected states, with a particular focus on United Nations peacekeeping. His dissertation, Natural Resources in Conflict-Affected Countries and United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, examines how resource wealth shapes where UN missions deploy and how effectively they protect civilians. His work on the regime type of foreign supporters of resistance movements and its effect on state repression appears in Terrorism and Political Violence, and his current projects trace how human rights records assessed through the Universal Periodic Review shape Security Council decisions to authorize missions, and how public attitudes toward peacekeeping are shaped by perceptions of its performance and principles.
Since arriving at Mizzou, Peter has taught courses in International Relations, Public Policy, and Peacekeeping and Intervention, along with American Foreign Policy and International Relations Theory through the Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies program.
