Dr. Peters is an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri School of Social Work. He also has appointments at the Truman School of Public Affairs and the University of Missouri Law School, and is a Policy Research Scholar at the Institute of Public Policy. His research examines child welfare services, judicial oversight of dependency cases, and the transition to adulthood for young people who have been in foster care. Previously, Dr. Peters was a researcher at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago and a Skadden Fellow at the Youth Law Center, where he represented youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems in civil rights actions. Dr. Peters is co-principal investigator of the University of Missouri’s Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program, and the principal investigator of a recently completed project examining foster care and asset building. He earned his PhD from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration in 2010, his MSW also from the University of Chicago in 2005, and his JD from Cornell University in 1992.
